Google seems unaware of a change in the app they made. In the UK you could just tap and pay and it was done. Now it requires additional verification. In the past simply touching the fingerprint reader, while the phone was still folded, would take the payment. Sadly due to changes Google has made. This no longer works. I now need to unlock my phone, unfold it, open the app and use the finger print reader again while awkwardly holding my unfolded phone and tapping again. This is a dumb change.

After the update early 2024, the contactless payment has become very annoying to use. They sight that is become "more secure", but would be nice to have setting to change verification. To be clear, the contactless payment ask you to verify its you with a pin/pattern for purchases (even under $5) when the phone has just been unlocked and the wallet app is open and the card is selected. Not very user-friendly as the receiving eftpos machine can glitches and needs to be reset by staff.

To provide a more secure and consistent in-store payments experience, Google Wallet now requires on-device authentication before completing a payment, regardless of the amount. This means you'll need to unlock your phone using a PIN, pattern, passcode, or Class 3 biometric for all non-transit tap-to-pay transactions. Learn more: g.co/help/3xjh9.

Unable to change default card any more, not good for changing the default card to pay with. Have submitted feedback via the app. Not good for people who travel a lot and need to change from travel tap cards to another card when home. Thanks for the reply, sadly this doesn't work - which is what the issue is. When you select a different card and then click on it before even getting the options, it just hangs with a spinning wheel. I have deleted all the caches and reset the app. Still broke.
