This official app is free. Gemini gives you direct access to Google’s best family of AI models on your phone so you can:

If you have access to Gemini Advanced it will be right here in the Gemini app.
The Gemini app is now live in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and more languages. See the full list of supported languages and countries here:

If you opt in to the Gemini app, it will replace your Google Assistant as the primary assistant on the phone. Some Google Assistant voice features aren't available through the Gemini app yet — including controlling media and routines. You can switch back to Google Assistant in settings.

At this state, it's quite disappointed. I had switched back to assistant. Slow in respond. Always wrong in performing simple command such as, increase brightness of lamp, switch light color etc , while google assistant does it better and faster. Single choice of monotone voice, (it's supposed to be a companion app, nice voice selection is appreciated). And you can't use both at the same time. Will check again if there's improvement in future.

Still has a ways to go before it catches up with Perplexity and ChatGPT. I ask it to create calendar events with info from my screen or from copied text, and it keeps misunderstanding and asking for the same information over again, I ask it to change the title of an event and completely misunderstands; I end up with an event titled "It", no idea where it keeps getting that from. Before this it kept telling me it can't create events until I cleared the cache. I'm just pretty disappointed so far.

Worst part is the fact that I can't use it with Spotify. It was cool whe I first started using it, but the main thing I depended on with the Google Assistant is being able to start, stop, skip, and like songs on Spotify. Moving to Gemini caused me to lose all that integration. I know they are slowly starting to add it and when it does, maybe I'll fully switch. For now, I'll stick with the Google Assistant. It can easily do Navigation, Web Query's, and has Spotify Integration.
